Your chatbot now has to admit it's a bot
Archive · Issue of 7 August 2026

Hi,
In the first week of August the EU started enforcing its AI rules, and they reach Swiss firms that sell into the EU. Free ChatGPT also became a lot more generous, which matters more for your data than for your budget. And if you’re not sure where to start with AI, this issue’s guide takes 20 minutes.
📰 The big three
1. EU AI Act: chatbots must now say they’re AI
Since 2 August, the EU is enforcing the AI Act, and transparency rules apply: chatbots must tell people they’re talking to a machine, and deepfakes must be labelled. Swiss firms are covered if their AI reaches EU customers. Fines run up to EUR 15 million or 3% of turnover.

3. Shopify: AI search orders tripled in a year
Shopify said traffic and orders from AI tools tripled year on year, while Google traffic kept growing. Half of AI-referred visitors land straight on a product page, and 75% of AI-attributed purchases fall outside the top 100 categories.
