Free ChatGPT gets unlimited text chats. Your staff will use it more.

What happened
On 6 August OpenAI announced that GPT-5.6 Luna would become the default model for ChatGPT’s Free and Go users that week. From the following week, free users would also get “unlimited text chats” and a new Think button for harder questions. Limits still apply to file uploads, images and other tools (OpenAI). OpenAI says answers with at least one factual error were about 62% less common with GPT-5.6 Luna than with the previous version.
Update, October 2026: ChatGPT’s pricing page still lists unlimited text chats on the Free plan, subject to abuse guardrails (ChatGPT pricing).
Why it matters for your business
The free version was already the one most people reach for. Removing the message cap makes it even easier for your team to use it for work, from customer emails to supplier quotes.
The catch is data. On ChatGPT’s individual plans (Free, Go, Plus and Pro), OpenAI may use conversations to train its models unless the user switches this off. On ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and the API, OpenAI says it does not train on your data by default (OpenAI Help).
So a team member pasting a customer complaint into a free account is a different thing from the same paste in a business workspace.
The Swiss angle
ChatGPT works in Switzerland and in German, French and Italian (OpenAI Help). ChatGPT Business costs USD 20 per user per month on annual billing or USD 25 monthly, minimum two seats (OpenAI Help). That is roughly CHF 17 or CHF 21 (approximate conversion). OpenAI’s help page doesn’t say whether tax is included.
Under Switzerland’s Data Protection Act, you stay responsible for customer data your staff put into any tool. A free personal account gives you no contract and no admin view of what was shared.
What to do
This week, ask your team which AI tools they use and on which account. Anyone using a personal ChatGPT account for work should switch off Settings > Data controls > Improve the model for everyone (OpenAI Help). Note that giving a thumbs up or down can still send that conversation for training. Then write down what may and may not be pasted. This issue’s template gives you a one-page policy to start from.
