ChatGPT Business adds Premium seats at USD 125 a month for heavy users
Archive · Issue of 28 August 2026

What happened
On 24 and 25 August, OpenAI made Premium seats available in ChatGPT Business, its plan for small teams (ChatGPT Business release notes, OpenAI). A Premium seat gives one person five times the usage of a Standard seat, removes the five-hour usage limit and resets usage weekly. It costs USD 125 per user per month, or USD 100 with annual billing. Standard seats stay at USD 25, or USD 20 annually.
Why it matters for your business
You can now mix seats in one workspace. Most of your team stays on Standard; the one or two people who hit the usage limit every day get Premium. That is cheaper than moving everyone to a bigger plan.
Be honest about who needs it. Someone who drafts a few emails and summarises a meeting a day will not hit Standard’s limits. Premium is for people who use ChatGPT for hours at a stretch: analysing large spreadsheets, writing long documents, or using Codex to write code. If no one on your team has complained about limits, you don’t need it.
OpenAI also offered early buyers USD 100 in workspace credits per Premium seat, up to five seats. That offer was tied to adding seats by 20 August, so it is over.
The Swiss angle
Prices are in US dollars. At about 0.83 CHF per USD (approximate), Standard is around CHF 17 a month on annual billing and Premium around CHF 83. OpenAI’s announcement does not say whether tax is included, so check your invoice for Swiss VAT. Data terms don’t change with the seat type: OpenAI says it does not use ChatGPT Business data to train its models by default (OpenAI).
What to do
Nothing, unless someone is hitting limits. If they are, upgrade that one seat for a month and see whether it changes their week. Then decide on annual billing.
