Anthropic releases Claude Fable 5.1 and cuts running costs

What happened
On 1 September 2026 Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1, an update to its main model, and a restricted twin called Mythos 5.1 for vetted security and life-sciences work. Fable 5.1 went live on all Anthropic platforms the same day, including the Claude apps and Amazon, Google and Microsoft cloud services (MacRumors).
Why it matters for your business
Two things change for a small team.
Cost. List prices stayed the same, but Anthropic says typical workloads cost about 25% less than with Fable 5, and up to about 45% less for long, multi-step jobs. That saving comes mainly from cheaper re-use of text the model has already read. If you pay a developer or agency to run Claude inside your own tools, ask them whether your bill should drop.
Privacy. Constellation Research noted that Anthropic moved in June to keep traffic for 30 days to check for misuse. With this launch it announced “Enterprise Frontier Safeguards”, which keep data in infrastructure the customer controls. That option is for enterprise customers. A 10-person firm on a Team plan should assume the standard retention terms apply and read them.
If you use Claude on a Team or Pro plan, you get the new model without doing anything.
The Swiss angle
Claude is available in Switzerland and handles German, French and Italian. Anthropic’s API list price for Fable 5.1 is USD 10 per million input tokens and USD 50 per million output tokens (about CHF 8.30 and CHF 41.50, approximate). Under the Swiss Data Protection Act you must know where personal data goes. Before pasting customer emails into any AI tool, check the plan’s data-retention terms and whether data leaves Switzerland.
What to do
If Claude is part of your team’s toolkit, open your plan’s privacy and data-retention page this week and write down two facts: how long prompts are kept, and whether they are used for training. Put both in your staff AI policy.
